Movies I Watched This Week (and what I probably should have been doing with my time)

So, that's right...I watched quite a few new movies this week. Here's my review.
1. Click (Adam Sandler)-I liked it. I could have done without the language and it would have been just as funny. Good lesson in the end. Nice ending.
2. Sydney White (Amanda Bynes and Matt Long-yummy!) I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It was very funny and moderately meaningful. I especially enjoyed watching Matt Long for the whole movie and the extras on the DVD. The extras are hilarious-especially the one about the 7 dwarfs. Very funny and extremely clean.
3. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith- Yes, this was a first time for me. I realize that in some people's books, I should be taken out and shot for this offense, but I have now seen it. I enjoyed it. I think I like it better than the others because the characters are much more simple. The main characters are almost all there is. I get confused easily when they start including multiple species on multiple planets and their needs and wants and...yeah. So, I enjoyed the simplicity. I also enjoyed the great symbolism I was able to draw from this viewing (see other blog for further explanation). Overall, I liked it. It was a little violent for my taste, but it is star wars.
As for what I probably should have been doing with my time instead of watching movies:
* playing the piano
* sleeping
* working out
* writing in a journal

* cleaning my car
* reading
* updating my resume
* learning a new talent
* cooking
* visiting teaching
* washing dishes
Well, I suppose I could go on, but I won't. I hope this list inspires me the next time and gives me some good ideas.
Ta ta for now!

Star Wars Marathon and So Much More

That's right, this week I attended a Star Wars marathon. During this epic event, the first three (1,2, and 3) were shown back to back. Now, I must be honest...I arrived late and only saw the last 25-30 minutes of the first one. Then I left to go to another event and came back in time for the last 20 minutes of the second one. However, during this event, I, for the first time, viewed the third Star Wars movie, something about the Sith. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the movie. It was late and I was fighting to stay awake, but I made it and enjoyed it.
While I watched, I began pondering the greatness of Star Wars: where does the grandeur of the movie come from? Why are so many people such loyal followers? What is so great about Star Wars? I came up with a few answers to satisfy my questions. First, the greatness began when the first Star Wars movies came out in the eighties. At that point, the idea was novel and fascinating. Also, the graphics and other visual techniques used were new and wonderful. I believe that laid the foundation for the future greatness of the movies.
The other thought I had was about the constant battle between good and evil. This is a common theme in film and has been seen in literature since the beginning of time. The movie I watched last night dealt at length with the idea of one destined for greatness giving in to evil. Certainly this is an issue we all deal with on a daily basis. Actually, we recently discussed this in my Old Testament class. We were talking about the fall of David. I'm greatly concerned with this story, as it can just as easily be anyone of us. Star Wars resonates with so many because it shows us ourselves, with the possibility of various outcomes. We watch Star Wars to cheer on good and boo at evil.
So, the next time you're working to enjoy a nice quiet Star Wars movie, don't forget to consider the eternal battle between good and evil. Evaluate your own life and see who's winning: Obi-wan Kenobi or Anakin.

Starting New

Hi everyone!
Welcome to my blog. I actually have two other blogs, but those are more annonymous things so I can write whatever I want and not worry about people I know reading it. But this, I'm hoping, will be a place to keep in touch and share interesting and or exciting things that happen, or just how I'm feeling on a particular day. So, here goes.
This week has been good. I'm tired of five day work weeks. I don't have much room to complain since I only work a few hours a day, but five days in a row is so much! My kids are good though, and I'm having success with developing routines with my newer groups.
Valentine's day was pretty good with the kids. It seemed like they were already hopped up on lots of sugar, so we were less than effective that day. I got to help out in first grade with their party. It was so fun to see them just hanging out and having fun. Being with first graders these past few weeks has reminded me how much I really like the younger kids.
As for the rest of my life, it's been pretty good lately. I've had some confusion in my personal/social life, but I think it's gonna work itself out here pretty soon.
Other than that, the most exciting thing to happen in my life recently is my new hair color. I went dark brown about two weeks ago and finally started loving it this week. This is the first time I've ever had my hair this dark, so it's been a little of a transition, but I LOVE IT!

That's all for now. I hope you enjoy and come back often to visit!
Peace, love, and aloha!
